One of our most recent visits was over the hills and through the woods to Doc's Lakeside Cabin and Margie B's Lake Lodge. We can assure you that if you are looking for a lovely, relaxing, luxurious getaway in the beautiful Shawnee National Forest, Doc's Lakeside Cabin or Margie B’s should be your top choices!
Doc’s was built by Robert and Tanya Loveless. It is called “Doc’s” after her grandfather, who used to sit on the porch across the lake at what is now Margie B’s, and say that “a cabin would look good over there”. He was right! It looks beautiful.
From the peaceful lakeside, wooded setting to the tastefully decorated and immaculate interior, to the inviting, comfortable screened in porch, Doc’s Lakeside Cabin is truly a place to relax and enjoy!
In addition to the story of how Doc’s came to be, Tanya also shared some great information about networking, marketing, social media and customer service. She advised the team to work hard, keep good records and be budget conscious while also staying true to yourself and how you run your business. This advice is so relevant to our current class business venture as well as our individual business ventures we will launch in the spring.
Next up was Tanya’s sister, Tasha Bittle-Faire. Tasha and her husband, Jerome, purchased Margie B’s after Tasha’s grandma, Margie Bittle, passed away. The lodge was home to Margie and Doc for many years and the setting for many family get togethers. It was so important to Tasha to keep the home in the family and continue her grandparents’ legacy. Thus, Margie B’s Lake Lodge was born.
It has been a true family affair getting it ready for visitors. Everyone pitched in to paint, update and decorate the unique A-frame structure, and has an eclectic, Mid Century vibe. Both Doc’s and Margie B’s have outdoor hot tubs to relax and soak in and many other amenities!
One thing Tasha stressed, was the importance of hard work and grit when taking on something like this. She advised us to be prepared for hiccups along the way and how getting through them is easier if you have good people to help you. She encouraged us to have integrity and treat people as we would like to be treated. As Tasha said, “Relationships are your greatest resource”, in personal and professional settings. This resonated with team member, Cash Hodges, who shared this in his journal:
“On Wednesday, we visited both Doc’s Lakeside Cabin and Margie B's Lake Lodge, talking to sisters, Tanya Loveless and Tasha Faire. This visit was very interesting and emotional as they both shared the rich and sentimental history of the lake.
My biggest takeaway from this visit, was the importance of family and friends in a business. Both Tanya and Tasha could not have succeeded as much as they have without the help of their family and friends. Whether it be putting up drywall or redoing plumbing or even just decorating the cabins, they look so beautiful not just because of the sisters, but because of everyone that pitched in and helped. Overall, I really enjoyed this visit and will use my relationships to help my business grow in the spring!”
Thank you to Tanya and Tasha for sharing your beautiful cabins and your family legacy with us! We had a great time!
