Last week, our team visited one of the most beautiful of our Southern Illinois landmarks. If you have not experienced the beauty and magnificence that is Bald Knob Cross in the fall, it is an understatement to say that you are missing out. The Cross is beautiful and magnificent at any time, but the fall colors are breathtaking.
Brinley Corbit, a senior at AJCHS, shared her thoughts about our visit:
“We started the week off strong with a visit to Bald Knob Cross with Mrs. Jena Guined. We got to learn the history behind how it came to be, and I thought it was so inspiring. All because of an idea and a lot of love and passion, we now have this beautiful piece of art we can visit whenever we want. To have something that can bring over 2,000 people for one service is such a special thing. Something my family always does is the Easter Sunrise Service, and it is so wonderful how people of all belief systems can come together and just celebrate together. We are very blessed to have this in our community.”
Executive Director, Mrs. Jena Guined is an amazing host! She shared about the history, the purpose, and the legacy that is Bald Knob Cross along with all of the many events, projects and what it takes to keep it going. Jena literally manages all aspects of the business end of this landmark. She is willing to pitch in and help where ever she is needed. Her love and passion for the Cross and its message are boundless. She shared that the Board of Directors is an amazing group of people also dedicated to the Cross and its message and along with the many dedicated volunteers, they have a great team.
There are many opportunities to get involved and help preserve this amazing part of our local history, including volunteering in the gift shop or for events, financial support, attending the events, purchasing from the gift shop and more. The gift shop sells many different cross-related items as well as many handmade, local products. Contact Jena with any questions!!
We want to thank Jena for this incredible experience! It is an amazing visit and we appreciate her knowledge, hospitality and passion for what she does!
Again, if you haven’t visited, GET UP THERE!!!
