Recently, we had the pleasure of visiting with Curtis Walker of Curts Classics LLC in Dongola, IL. We learned a lot about business, gained some really great business and life advice and oh, we saw some fabulous cars!!!
Curt has been in the “selling” business for over 20 years. He has sold classic cars, RVs, trailers, non-classic cars and much more! He has worked for other people and owned his own businesses. Curt also shared that he owns some rental property because diversity in business is a good thing because our economy goes up and down and what is a “good” line of work today, might not be as lucrative tomorrow.
Another great tip he shared is to adapt and think outside of the box. Curt’s Classics is located in a former church. At first, that may seem like a strange choice for a car dealership/garage, but it has worked well for Curt and his business. It was in a good location, at a good price and has utilized an existing structure instead of it falling into disrepair.
As UCCEO team member, Chesnee Marks shared, “One quote that he gave to us that particularly stuck out to me was from Einstein, reading “the measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” Mr. Walker paired this quote with the stories of how he had done many other things during his life. This specific quote stuck out to me because it made me think about change as something to be excited for and welcome rather than something to fear.” What a great life lesson for these young entrepreneurs to hear and see as they begin their journey! Your path may not always be straight but success comes in many different forms!
Along with Curt’s sharing his knowledge and experience, he also shared some of his classic cars! We had a great time looking at, sitting in and dreaming about those beautiful cars! The classics are AMAZING! Thank you Curt, for a great morning! We had a fantastic time!!!
