As the 2024 team from last year heads off to their next chapter, we wish them well and would like to share some of their final experiences. Two of our visits from last spring were with Lance Meisenheimer, Union County Clerk, Leigh Burns, Union County Treasurer, Max Miller, Chair of the Union County Commissioners and Tyler Tripp, Union County States Attorney.
We spent two mornings at the Union County Courthouse learning about the ins and outs of the Union County Government. These individuals and their staff members work hard to maintain their respective offices and carry out the duties required of them.
In the County Clerk’s office, we learned about the importance of maintaining many of the county records including marriage and death certificates, property records, and all things voter related! They have records from the earliest transactions in Union County!!
Next, Mr. Miller gave us a rundown of how the County Commissioners facilitate and oversee the county. The Commissioners meet regularly to discuss the “business” of running Union County and serving the citizens.
In the Treasurers office, Union County Treasurer, Leigh Burns and Supervisor of Assessments, Tammy Robinson explained how property values are determined and how the tax money that is collected goes to provide funding for schools and more!
Our next visit with State’s Attorney, Tyler Tripp, was about the duties and responsibilities of the Union County legal team. In addition to prosecuting criminals, the states attorney is the legal council for all of the county officials and offices.
All of these offices require more than an 8 hour, 5 day work week. The positions, challenging and responsibilities are many. The people who work in these offices do their best to provide the best services possible for the people of Union County and we appreciate their willingness and efforts to make our county a great place to live and work.
